The Little White Dress for Spring 2010

Yes ladies, it is time to get your "LWD" (Little White Dress) out for the Spring because it is right around the corner. There are certain things that should be staple items in a woman's wardrobe, and a LWD is definitely one of them. White is extremely feminine and very flirty, and you will always look perfect wearing it!

Basically it’s just a white dress with the skirt no longer than a knee point. It can be of any style, with any kind of embellishment or adornment.

Modern collections include nice examples of laconic minimalism. Minimalism means minimum details of any type, a simple, modest but still beautiful dress.

So when the weather breaks and its time to head to Sunday Brunch or a afternoon Luncheon to attend, you'll have your Little White Dress to arrive in!

10 Items a Lady should have in her bag....

Every woman should have a makeup bag that contains essential items that will come in handy in any situation. You may think that a list of items would weigh your bag down, but actually many of these items are small in size, and can be used several different ways. I have taken the time to list of few items that a lady shouldn't leave the house without.

1. A small good quality Mirror. You never know when you have to take a peak at yourself or go freshen up your makeup. It also comes in handy if you have to take a peak at a cute guy behind you!

2. A small vial of Fragrance. A small rollerball perfume, or simple spray works just fine. A woman's scent is so important, and when you need that quick freshener, its right in your magic bag.

3. Hand Sanitizer. Hands pick up so many germs, and you don't always have access to water. This item also has a great use for removing food spills on clothing!

4. Hand Cream. You never know when you will be approached and have to shake someones hand, so when that situation approaches, you want to make sure it is a soft touch.

5. Nail Clippers. This tool can be used for so many things, from a snagged nail that has been getting caught on every little thing, to a loose thread on some clothing.

6. Lip gloss or Lipstick in a neutral color. Choose a mocha, pink, plum, nude, or whatever matches your skin tone the best. The reason for this is that in addition to it being used to touch up your lips, but it also works as blush or eyeshadow on the go.

7. A travel size of deodorant. This is another product that helps us out when it comes to freshening up on the go. I don't know about you, but I am human and sometimes I forget to put on my deodorant while rushing out the door, but luckily I have my emergency deodorant in my bag!

8. A safety pin. Sometimes we are rushing so much, that we forgot that the shirt we put on was still missing that button you were suppose to sew back on. Or even sometimes we wear that shirt that is cut a little too low for the office. Well your safety pin will do the job in a hurry to get you through your day.

9. Mascara. Sometimes you just need to add that pop to your eyes for a simple pick-me-up after a long day.

10. Feminine Cleansing Wipes. These things do wonders! They come in handy for many things, whether you have to wipe your hands from a messy lunch, or freshen up before you meet up with friends for drinks after work. This product ladies is definitely something I just can't go without.

Not to say that you have to carry all of these items on you, but take my word for it, they will all come in great need at some point.

Putting a few Men's Fashion Myths to rest

There are many Men's Fashion Myths that have been passed around over the years. Some have truth and reason to them, and some are just useless. I have put together a few guy myths that are pretty popular and gave tome insight on what I think of them.

No white after Labor Day. This is probably the biggest fashion myth. This myth typically refers to not wearing white shoes past the Summer months. Because fashion has changed so much, the "Fashion Police" have been a little forgiving with this issue. This is one of those subjects where I just go with what looks great, so who cares if nobody else agrees.

Your Shoes & Belt must be the same color. This one is a big myth that has caused many men to look boring and plain. As long as your belt & shoe colors belong to the same family (EXAMPLE: Browns, Oranges, and Greens) are paired together, you'll be fine.

Don't mix patterns. The "fake" rule of only wearing one pattern at a time has been ingrained in our minds. It's an easy assumption to make, since it's only logical that combining a green plaid shirt and a yellow polka-dot tie would make you look like a clown. Mixing patterns can be a very sophisticated and fashion-forward look in men's fashion, but only if you have the know-how to pull it off. The best way to play with pattern is with your shirt and tie combo.

The main rules to follow are: The colors in both patterns should be in the same tone (again, they don't need to match exactly), and one pattern should be more subtle than the other. For example, pick a striped shirt and throw on a tie with a subtle checkered pattern that's in the same color family.

These were just some of the most popular Fashion Myths for Men, but there are plenty more. Hope this helps you out fellas!

Fashion Tips for Men

Whoever said that men don't care about fashion was wrong. Some men might not be as passionate as women are, but they still care about their appearance. Below I have listed a few tips to help the men out on ways to be a fashion forward person.

1.Always be yourself. Wear what you think looks nice, not what others believe is trendy. You should always feel comfortable with what you're wearing, so stick to items that suit your personality and regular style, while keeping the occasion and setting in mind. Just because something is headlined as the latest in men's fashion, it doesn't necessarily mean it's the fashion for you. The same goes for flashy colors: if you're not comfortable wearing fuchsia, then don't.

2.Less is more. Always think to yourself "I won't overdo it"; you don't have to wear every single trendy item you own all at once. Buy one or two trendy pieces every season and mix and match them with the basics in your wardrobe. It's a cost-effective, safe way to look your best every day. But, always remember that what's trendy is not always right for you.

3.Maintain balance. Keep a good balance of basic and trendy clothing in your wardrobe. In other words, half your wardrobe should not consist of trendy clothes, or worse, clothes that are out of style.

4.Don't be a sucker for brand names. Another good tip is to avoid referring to your clothes by their designer labels (i.e. "my Boss belt" or "my Diesel Jeans"). By dissociating the item from its manufacturer, you will condition yourself to look at the item itself rather than be swayed by men's fashion brand names.

5.Don't be a slave to the media. Don't base your look solely on what you see in magazines and on TV. Celebrities and models often overdo trends for attention, and their flashy attire will likely not translate well for you, in the real world.

Before you decide to purchase a new item, ask yourself if you are buying it because it's "in style" or because you genuinely like it. In addition, when it comes to men's fashion and designer goods, ask yourself if you would buy the garment if it didn't have the designer logo on the front pocket. In the end, if you don't really like it, you probably won't be comfortable wearing it and are therefore better off not buying it.

Fashion Week NYC: Ralph Lauren Fall 2010

As you know, I am a Ralph Lauren fan for life! I had no choice but to be excited about seeing what Mr. Lauren had up his sleeve for Fashion Week. Ralph Lauren presented his vision of fall romance with seasonal classics, dark separates, and rich fabrics. Velvet, suede, wool and tweed made for heavy, albeit haute, jackets , tunics and pants. Floral silk georgette blouses, maxi dresses and skirts were naturally laid back. Overall Fall 2010 is quintessentially Ralph Lauren; looks are fit for suburban ladies and stylish urbanites who dream of a relaxing weekend upstate. Country inspired attire makes for a chic and cozy season.

Fashion Week 2010: Michael Kors Fall Line

Michael Kors is one of the few designers that I can always depend on to bring his A-game for Fashion Week. Yes, he has done it again for the Fall 2010 line that he presented in New York this week at Fashion Week. Kors churned out a luxuriously mix of furs, knits, layers, and some evening pieces. Gold lurex separates, anthracite tweed, and a to-die-for jersey draped gown sedated the lush knits and pullovers. I have always been a fan of Michael Kors, and he has managed to keep me interested for another season!

6 Tips on keeping your wardrobe fresh on a budget

A person should never let their budget get in the way of keeping your style on point. There are many things that you can do to keep your look fresh, even when you have to be disciplined of your spending. Here are a few tips that I have listed to help you out.

1. Wear More Color. There is no better way to liven your wardrobe up, than adding a pop of color. It could be something as simple as adding a colored t-shirt under a sweater, or adding a scarf to complete a look.

2. Try a new pair of Glasses or Sunglasses. Coming from a person who owns over 10 pair of designer prescription glasses, I believe glasses are a great accessory to express your personal style. If you don't wear glasses, then some really cool shades are always a great accessory to keep you look exciting.

3. Treat yourself to one or two great pieces. There is nothing wrong with having fun inexpensive items in your wardrobe, but you still should have some super pieces to complete your style. These pieces could be anything from a cool sport coat, a great leather jacket, a awesome pair of jeans that fit you like a glove, or a great pair of shoes. Whatever you choose, make sure it's something that is a flattering piece that looks amazing on you.

4. Grab a cool Belt. Sometimes a great outfit could be missing a simple piece that would complete the look, and a belt could be that perfect accessory. Belts can be inexpensive, and come in various sizes and colors.

5. Always keep your Shoes clean. Shoes that are not clean, or have gotten worn too much could definitely destroy an outfit. Always keep your shoes fresh and on point no matter what you paid for them.

6. Get a Cool Watch. Watches are a great inexpensive item to spruce up any look. They come in many great colors, styles, sizes, and price ranges!

These were just a few tips I had to help you out, I hope that you can use them!

Breaking News: Fashion Designer Alexander McQueen dies at 40

At the age of 40, Fashion designer Alexander McQueen (Lee McQueen) was found dead at his London home, just days before London Fashion Week and a month before he unveiled his new collection at Paris Fashion Week. His body was discovered at his property in Green Street, in the West End, shortly after 10am this morning. Paramedics were on the scene where they pronounced him dead. There are reports of suicide, at this time police have not made any official comments but said case was not being treated as suspicious.

A statement issued by his company, Alexander McQueen, stated: "On behalf of Lee McQueen's family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand, has been found dead at his home. At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee's family."

Alexandra Shulman, the editor of British Vogue, said McQueen had influenced a whole generation of designers. "His brilliant imagination knew no bounds as he conjured up collection after collection of extraordinary designs," she said.

"At one level he was a master of the fantastic, creating astounding fashion shows that mixed design, technology and performance and on another he was a modern-day genius whose Gothic aesthetic was adopted by women the world over. His death is the hugest loss to anyone who knew him and for very many who didn't."

At 20 he was employed by the designer Koji Tatsuno. A year later McQueen travelled to Milan where he worked as a design assistant to Romeo Gigli. He returned to London in 1994 where he completed a master's degree in fashion design at Central St Martins College. His degree collection was famously bought in its entirety by Isabella Blow, a leading figure in the fashion world who died in 2007.

In less than 10 years McQueen became one of the most respected fashion designers in the world. In October 1996 he was appointed chief designer at the French label Givenchy where he worked until March 2001.

In December 2000, 51% of Alexander McQueen was acquired by luxury brand Gucci, where he became creative director. Expansion followed and included the opening of flagship stores in New York, London and Milan.

McQueen was a four-time winner of the British designer of the year award as well as the international designer of the year award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. He was awarded the CBE in 2003.

Makeup Tips for my Chocolate Ladies!

Everyone knows that I am known for my adventurous eye makeup. Being that I am a woman of color, I do sometimes find it difficult to find makeup that works best for my complexion. A lot of people think that since they are dark complected that they have to always stick with neutral colors and they cant enjoy the many colors that are out there. Below I have listed a few makeup tips that will help you out in the future.

Foundation

To avoid the mask effect keep away of opting for shades that are lighter than the natural tone. Undoubtedly makeup is more visible on a darker skin than on the fair one. Liquid foundations are the perfect option for this skin tone. Make it oil-free and rather water-based, this will guarantee that your whole makeup will be the closest in shade to your natural skin color.

Blending is the key to success, choose powders that are rather translucent to add a soft finish to your look. Keep away from the shiny look, it might spoil your whole makeup.

Eye Makeup

The next step is to accentuate the eyes, indeed there are special shades that can add a glamorous flair to your skin tone. Apply a tiny transparent powder on the eyelids for the long-lasting effect. Then experiment with shades as prunes, burgundies, copper and dark browns.

Dark colors seem to complement this complexion more, rather than the light and powdery tints. If you feel the need to shine choose metallic shades. These will look fabulous especially if applied for a special night or an evening event.

During the day feel free to use brown or gray eyeliners, these will brighten up your eye makeup making it more sensitive and spectacular. Top your look with black or copperish mascara for a classy touch.

Lips

Depending on the particular event and the time of the day opt rather for a matte one and avoid the frosted ones. Dark complexion looks amazing with burgundies, brownish and berry shades. However the color palette can be further widened with mochas, coffee, chocolates, gold, soft pink and beige colors. The only no-no would be the orange tones, these seem to match fair skin tones rather than dark ones.

Blush

As the final touch to the perfect makeup blush has an essential role in crowning the overall look. That's why it is necessary to take great care when choosing the right shade. Brown and peach shades were not designed for dark complexion.

On he contrary deep orange, coral shades as well as rose are the no.1 favorites of makeup artists when it comes of emphasizing the beauties of dark skin. For an evening meeting or activity you can add a tint of gold to your makeup. The goldish colors work fabulously with your skin tone.

Keeping the Makeup Soft & Natural for Spring 2010

Hey ladies, listen up! The look for makeup this Spring is clean, soft, and natural. These looks are emphasizing the woman's natural beauty by displaying her elegance, femininity, and confidence. This bare makeup look is appropriate for day wear as wear as evening wear, for formal or less formal occasions. Femininity and natural beauty can be enhanced with light makeup and soft brown eyeshadow in order to create the amazing simple yet outstanding look that every woman could benefit from.

Make sure you exfoliate your face before you apply your makeup to ensure a clean and uniform application. Apply the foundation using a makeup sponge, a brush or your fingers uniformly and set it using translucent powder.

When it comes to eye makeup, soft shades are the solution. Peach, copper, soft pink are the most popular eyeshadow colors used since they blend beautifully with most skin tones and create a very simple and attractive look.
Rosy or brown toned blush add a little bit of color and definition to the cheekbones, softening the look. To brighten and enlarge the eyes apply a white eyeliner on the waterline. A touch of mascara brushed on the upper lashes and a touch of lip color lipstick complete the look.

Kellan Lutz to Appear in Calvin Klein Underwear Ads

With salty language, social media, 3-D effects and a vampire, the next campaign from Calvin Klein Underwear is holding nothing back. It’s the brand’s most global and most digital campaign to date and features, for the first time, a racially and nationally diverse quartet of male models instead of just one. They are:

• American actor Kellan Lutz, who plays vampire Emmett Cullen in the “Twilight” series, and is expected to be more prominent in “Eclipse,” the third installment.

• American actor Mehcad Brooks, who played “Eggs” Benedict Talley on HBO’s “True Blood,” and now stars as an attorney on ABC’s new legal drama, “The Deep End.”

• Spanish tennis star Fernando Verdasco, a top-10 ranked player.

• Japanese soccer star Hidetoshi Nakata, one of the most famous Asian footballers (although retired), who attends runway shows and wears designer clothes, earning him a reputation as the Asian David Beckham.

The four will appear separately in coordinated advertisements debuting “X,” a new underwear range hitting stores this month.

“The launch of Calvin Klein X Underwear is a truly global initiative, so we believe it is imperative to feature talent from our most important regions — Asia, Europe and the USA — in the launch advertising,” said Tom Murry, chief executive officer of Calvin Klein Inc., a division of Phillips-Van Heusen.

“The four different guys give us different ways to express things. They have different personalities, and that helps in our dialogue with our consumers,” said Bob Mazzoli, chief creative officer for Calvin Klein Underwear, a unit of The Warnaco Group.

So enjoy ladies!

Dressed to Impress at the 2010 Grammys

This glitzy blue KaufmanFranco and matching diamond jewels looked amazing on Taylor Swift, winner of 4 grammys for the evening.

Never afraid of taking risks, R&B diva Mary J. Blige looked fierce in a bright raspberry gown from Gucci.

Gaga's custom-made, crystallized Armani gown was quite impressive. She has a unique style of her own, and she brings her A-game every time!

The multi-talented superstar rocked a Victoria Beckham beauty but accessorized with dark nylons, futuristic Lucite bangles, and Yves St. Laurent "Trib Two" platform pumps.

These were some of the few dresses that stuck out at me, its sad to say that the stars that I thought were going to bring their best....disappointed me. Better luck next year!
